Mill City Singers

Mill City Singers is a community choir that includes people from varied racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds who share a passion for singing. The Mill City Singers provide free community-based performances.

The choir is led by J.D. Steele and Fred Steele, who teach via call and response. This inclusive approach allows members to participate regardless of their ability to read music. Since 2016 the Singers have sung at the Capri Theater, Orchestra Hall, the Ordway, at the Super Bowl event Bold Hope in the North, lead the singing of ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at a Twins game every summer, and in many other venues.

These performances are the result of many hours of group rehearsals, but they are not the only reward. For many participants, the joy of working as a group toward a common goal and the journey of preparation is equally rewarding.
